Faculty & Staff Carpool Permit Policy

Goal - To reduce single-occupancy vehicles on campus

Description

  • Min. number of participants: 2, both must be employed at NC State University
  • Permit type: CP
  • Cost per participant: $7/month
  • Parking zones: B, C, E, F, S, DC, DD
  • Gate card may be issued
  • Daily parking passes: Each participant receives 12 free daily permits valid in the carpool zones. Up to 24 additional daily permits may be purchased for $2/each.

Application Process / Eligibility Policies

  • Application must be completed online
  • The application must contain complete information for each rider, incuding automobile information
  • Permit will not be issued until verification process is complete (approximately within 24 hours)
  • A check will be completed to verify applicants' employment status
  • Applicants will be checked for existing permits, including vanpool registrations
  • If the applicant holds a permit of any kind, it must be turned in prior to issuing the CP permit
  • Twelve free daily permits will be issued on a prorated basis
  • Free daily passes will be issued on the following prorated schedule:
Carpooling Driver Free Passes
Month Number of passes Month Number of Passes
Aug 12 Feb 6
Sep 11 Mar 5
Oct 10 Apr 4
Nov 9 May 3
Dec 8 June 2
Jan 7 July 1
  • Only one CP permit issued per application
  • Carpool participants must apply for a new CP permit each year
  • Registered carpool participants are eligible for the Emergency Ride Home program

Additional Considerations

  • A letter will be issued informing the carpool of the status of the permit if one participant chooses to purchase a regular permit
  • Each temporary university employee participating in a carpool must pay his or her portion of the CP permit in its entirety when the permit is issued
  • Carpool participants may not ask for or receive a temporary parking permit at either of the visitor information booths. If their CP is lost or stolen they will be issued a new permit and the old one will be voided out of the system.
