Carpool FAQs
Q. If I carpool with someone who is not a NCSU employee,
am I eligible for a CP permit?
A: If your carpool consists of just 2 people, only one of whom is
a university employee, you are not eligible for
the CP permit. However, if your carpool consists of more than 2
people, and at least 2 people are NCSU employees you are
eligible for the CP permit. Only the university employees will be
allowed to register/display the CP permit in their vehicles.
Q: My potential carpool partner currently possesses a B
permit and he/she does not want to give up their permit, but they
do want to carpool. Can we still apply for the CP permit?
A: In order to participate in the carpool program, all carpool participants
must turn in their exisiting permits (remember that the CP permit
provides access to all B lots). If you would like to try the CP
permit on a trial basis, please contact the WolfTrails staff at
515-1609 and this can be arranged. During the trial period, all
existing permits must be turned in. If you find that the program
does not suit your needs, you will be able to buy back whatever
permit you had.
Q: I want to carpool, but 12 day permits are not enough
to make the program work for me.
A: The 12-free permit annual limit is in place to promote regular
(5-day/week) carpools. (Remember that it is 12 passes per participant,
not for the total carpool.) Each participant also has the option
of purchasing up to 24 additional day permits for $2 each. This
is set up to allow carpool participants to drive to campus seperately
once per week.
If 12 free permits plus 24 $2 permits are not enough for you to
commit to the carpool program, we still encourge you to carpool
whenever you can. You will still save money on gasoline and wear-and-tear
to your vehicle.
