Carpool FAQs

Q. If I carpool with someone who is not a NCSU employee, am I eligible for a CP permit?
A: Carpools with two people, with only one university employee, are not eligible for the CP permit. However, carpools with two or more members with at least two NCSU employees you are eligible for the CP permit. Only the university employees will be allowed to register/display the CP permit in their vehicles.

Q: My potential carpool partner currently possesses a B permit and he/she does not want to give up their permit, but they do want to carpool. Can we still apply for the CP permit?
A:All carpool participants must turn in their exisiting permits (the CP permit provides access to all B lots). If you want to try carpooling on a trial basis, please contact us at 515-1609. During the trial period, all existing permits must be turned in. If carpooling doesn't work, participants may buy back original permits.

Q: I want to carpool, but 12 day permits are not enough to make the program work for me.
A: The 12-free permit annual limit promotes regular (5-day/week) carpools. (12 daily permits per participant.) Each participant also has can purchase up to 24 additional day permits for $2 each. The program is set up to allow carpool participants to drive to campus seperately once per week.

Carpooling periodically with an informal carpool still saves money on gasoline and vehicle wear-and-tear - plus every little bit helps the environment.
