Construction
Growing pains are common here at NC State. As the campus population
increases, improvements are a must. Construction affects parking
and transportation.
To allow contractors sufficient space to safely build
or remodel buildings, staging zones are necessary. A staging zone
is an area where a contractor places materials and equipment. Depending
on the project scoipe, these area are often fenced for the protection
of the materials, as well as safety of pedestrians. For a quick visual of construction
areas, view construction
staging
map.

Major Construction Projects Impacting Parking
- Talley Student Center Renovation and Addition - East Cates Avenue from Morrill Drive eastbound will often be reduced to one-lane traffic with parking impacts. Parking on the south side of Cates Avenue (in front of Turlington Hall) will be impacted through mid-September. The work will progress eastbound toward the Morrill/Cates Avenue intersection, which will also impact parking. As work is completed, parking will open back up for use. View staging area.
- Varsity Drive/Western Boulevard Intersection Improvements - Right-turn lanes are being added on both the north and south side of the intersection, along with signal upgrades, which will facilitate better traffic flow in the area and accommodate increased traffic related to the new West Parking Deck. We expect the work to be completed by November, 2011. Varsity Drive will remain open at all times, but may periodically be reduced to one-lane traffic (with traffic assistance provided).
