Peer University Benchmarking Study

In 2003, NCSU Transportation began a continuous improvement program through long and short range planning and operations assessments. To further our improvement planning and operations assessments, we are conducting a Peer University Benchmarking Study (PUBS).

The PUBS has two interrelated purposes: 1) to identify universities similar to NCSU and to document their approaches to parking, transit and transportation demand management, and 2) to develop internal benchmarks regarding our performance across the same areas of operations. We intend to use the benchmarks in monthly and/or annual reports.

Peer Selection Process
A short survey was sent out to relevant listservs, Best Workplaces for Commuters- University designees, and the official peers of NC State University. The peer group will be made up of six - ten universities based on survey responses.

8/21/06 – The surveys are in! See the list of participating universities here.

8/4/06 – The deadline to return surveys has been extended to Friday, August 18, 2006.

7/14/06 – The peer questionnaire (link to questionnaire) was mailed to the peer group. Responses are due by August 4, 2006.

7/10/06 – The PUBS Advisory Team selected the short-list peer group, which includes the 16 official peers of NC State University, as well as 7 universities that were selected because of similarities with NC State in campus size, setting, and/or transit service.

Project Schedule
The final PUBS report is scheduled for completion on December 15, 2006. The following are approximate dates of project milestones. We will strive to complete each milestone by the date specified, but unforeseen circumstances may arise and deadlines may have to be extended. We will do our best to keep participants informed of any changes in the project schedule.
