Parking on Campus

NCSU Transportation strives to provide excellent service to the NC State University community and to our visitors.

As with most universities, parking demand exceeds parking supply. Parking permits are required campus wide with some short term parking available in meter spaces and pay lots. We offer special permits for some types of vehicles, accessibility and events.

Resident parking areas ("RC," "RE", "RW") are enforced -
Monday - Thursday: 7:00 a.m. to Midnight; Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

How To Avoid A Parking Ticket

1. Buy a Permit/Public Pay Areas

All vehicles are required to have a parking permit on campus. Paylots or pay by space are available for vehicles without permits.

Tip: Never loan, buy, sell, trade, or barter parking permits. The permit holder is responsible for tickets to the vehicle.

2. Only Park in Designated Spaces

Proper parking is defined as a vehicle parked between two white lines.

Tip: Parking in non-designated areas even 'for just a minute' with flashers on is not legal parking.

3. Look for the Sign

Unless a parking sign indicates otherwise, you must have a parking permit to park on campus between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday- Friday, except on Official University Holidays. This includes class breaks. Resident parking area enforcement is extended until midnight Monday -Thursday.

Tip: Pay lots, "Reserved" and "No Parking" areas are enforced at all times.

4. NCSU Employees and Students

...are NOT visitors. Therefore, they may not use spaces or permits designated for visitors.

Tip: Instead, feel free to use hourly pay lots or metered spaces and pay the parking fee.

5. University Holiday/Student Break Enforcement

University Holidays

When the University is closed Transportation operates under limited enforcement, including reserved spaces, fire lanes, accessibilty spaces and designated no parking areas.

Student Breaks

When classes are not in session (student spring and fall breaks, official holidays, summer sessions), employee lots are still enforced according to the permit (A, B, C). Parking meters, pay lots, and all reserved spaces are enforced. SEE DATES BELOW

Student Example: With a valid permit, you may park in any student area (RE, RF, RH, RS, RV, RW, RC, and university-owned parking decks except Poulton Deck and Oval West Deck). DO NOT park in any employee areas (A, B, C).
Permits are enforced during exams and reading days.

Employee Example: If you have a C permit, do not park in an A or B permit area. Park in C or a student area.
