Towing & Immobilization Policy

Vehicle Towing Policy

Vehicles may be towed if they are illegally parked in accordance with the North Carolina State University Parking and Traffic Ordinance for the following reasons:

  1. Parking in a "No Parking" area (driving lanes, traffic lanes, yellow curbs, driveways, sidewalks, dumpster spaces, intersections, grass, lawns, etc.)

  2. Upon receiving the sixth (6) violation within any twelve (12) month period, the vehicle will be placed on the tow/immobilization list.

  3. Abandoned vehicles.

  4. Parking in handicapped spaces.

  5. Parked in reserved spaces, areas, or lots.

  6. Parked in a space marked "24 Hour Towing".

  7. Unauthorized parking at 1903 Hillsborough Street.

  8. Parked in firelanes.

  9. Overnight parking at any park and ride lot.

  10. Overnight parking at the Coliseum or Dan Allen Deck Paylots

Vehicle Immobilization Policy

Vehicles may be immobilized for any of the following reasons:

  1. Appearing on University tow list and found in violation.

  2. Checks returned to Transportation for any reason.

  3. Display of a lost, stolen or revoked permit.

  4. Non-registered vehicle appearing on University tow list.

  5. Non-payment of accrued fines.

  6. Unsatisfactory payment for a permit. Removal of the boot requires a payment of $25 in addition to payment of all accrued fines and late fees.

Vehicles immobilized for longer than 36 hours will be towed or relocated to a designated storage facility. Payment of towing fee, booting fee and accrued fines must be made prior to release of vehicle.
