Tips to Avoid Receiving a Parking Ticket

The goal of enforcement is NOT to cite vehicles, but to encourage your voluntary compliance with NCSU parking rules and regulations. Please don't hesitate to ask enforcement officers for directions or assistance - they are happy to help you.

  1. Know the basic parking rules for campus:

Parking enforcement hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

Parking enforcement hours for resident parking areas are 7 a.m. to Midnight, Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Reserved areas and spaces are enforced 24 hours, 7 days per week. Enforcement exceptions are posted at the entrances to the lots stating the specifics for the Peele lot (beside Peele Hall) & Hillsborough lots (behind Hillsborough Building & Baptist Student Union).

Park only in marked parking spaces (designated by painted lines). There are striped spaces for parking on all surfaces except gravel. The gravel lots typically have timbers to aide in defining the direction of parking. Driving lanes must remain clear at all times.

  2. Employees and Students are NOT visitors and are not eligible for visitor parking permits and may not park in visitor spaces.

  3. Look for the signs designating the zone (found at entrances to lots or streets). Read the signs

  4. Look for meters and signs within the zone that specify the use of an individual space (meters must have parking time paid for, reserved spaces must have the correct permit for the individual space, handicapped must display correct permit and placard, vendor spaces must display vendor permits).

  5. Notes and Hazard Lights are NOT honored in lieu of parking in a designated space, displaying a valid permit or payment at meters/ pay lots.

  6. Do not park on grass, sidewalks, beside yellow curbs or fire lanes (painted red with white lettering or marked with signs).

  7. Do not park in areas or beside curbs that do not have markings for spaces.

  8. Do not park in (handicapped) accessible spaces or reserved spaces without the correct permit.

  9. Do not park in the crosshatch area adjacent to (handicapped) accessible spaces

  10. Do not use a permit purchased or given to you by someone other than Transportation.

  11. Do not use a permit you found.

  12. Obtain a temporary permit for short time periods for loading/unloading needs.

  13. Permits are required during class breaks and "Student Holidays" (some exceptions are made and may be found in the Relaxed Enforcement Section).

  14. Parking fines are expensive: IF IN DOUBT, FIND ANOTHER PARKING SPACE.

Contact Transportation if you have any questions or need clarification.
