Reports have been received of two-three con artists working together in airports to steal laptop computers from unsuspecting passengers as they move through the metal detector. Two individuals working together position themselves in front of a passenger with a laptop and stall until the laptop is placed on the conveyor belt. The first individual makes it through the metal detector without a problem but the second one sets it off and slowly removes keys, jewelry, etc. from his pocket. This allows the first suspect time to pick up the laptop and exit the area before the unsuspecting passenger is aware.
This is becoming a widely-practiced problem at airports everywhere. When traveling with a laptop, delay placing your laptop on the conveyor belt until you are sure you will be next through the line and keep your eyes on your computer and luggage. Be aware of the other passengers around you and watch what they pick up.
