Tutorial: Set
up Word Processor Before you do anything it's a good idea to look at formatting guidelines in the Thesis and Dissertation Guide. You'll save a lot of time if you know the formatting rules before you start! Also, check out some manuals of style suggested by the Thesis Editor. The easiest way to avoid wasting time after you have finished your thesis is to set everything up right when you start. If you don’t you can waste hours trying to get it right once you are done. Indeed, we recommend a full trial run early in your research career. The first thing to do is set up your "Global Page Settings". By using global page settings all of the pages of your thesis or dissertation will have the same form regarding page numbering, margins, line spacing, and font size. In contrast, setting up different selections for different pages will cause problems the entire time you are writing. The easiest way to set everything up right is to use a template. A template provides the basic form of your paper, but has none of the text included. You can just go through and fill in your text, and everything will be set up correctly.
