Planning & Benchmarking
UPA designs and facilitates planning processes at the university level while helping individual units develop and implement their own planning processes. UPA assists with benchmarking the university’s performance against selected peers and the community of research universities. Planning processes include compact planning, enrollment planning and trend analyses. UPA can assist with designing and implementing planning processes, developing performance measures and setting enrollment targets.

Institutional Research
UPA reports official data on students, faculty, and staff to the UNC General Administration, campus users and external agencies. UPA provides data and reports on the UPA website about student admissions, enrollment, demographic profiles, about faculty and other information about university resources. UPA conducts special studies such as academic program costs, faculty salary equity, admission criteria, effects of new academic policies, admissions yield analyses, and others.

Assessment & Surveys
Assessment informs planning and decision-making, and provides evidence about the quality of learning, teaching, research, service, extension, and engagement. UPA assessment services include coordinating assessment activities across the university; providing guidance on assessment, and assisting with interpretation and use of data for decision making. UPA staff provide direction for the assessment of Learning in a Technology-Rich Environment (LITRE), a university-wide initiative and the theme of NC State University's quality enhancement plan.
UPA survey research staff conducts university-wide surveys of new freshmen, sophomores, graduating seniors, and alumni to obtain student feedback. UPA staff is available to consult with NC State community about interpreting and using survey result s and provide expertise on survey methodology. UPA also administers the ClassEval, a new, online system for student evaluation of courses.
