Overview of regularly-scheduled campus-wide survey activity
- New freshman students are surveyed:
- every year at fall-term orientation sessions.
- about demographics and family background; factors influencing
decisions to apply and accept; application and admission
experience; goals, interests, & expectations.
- Second-term sophomores are surveyed:
- currently biannually (even-numbered years) by Web and as part of advising for fall
registration.1
- about satisfaction with their overall educational
experience, faculty contributions to their educational
experience, and academic and support services; about campus
climate; self-rated knowledge, skills, and development; and
their suggestions for improvement.
- Seniors graduating in both fall and spring are surveyed:
- currently every year by Web, typically
as part of the graduation checkout process.

- about satisfaction with their educational experience in
their major area, faculty contributions to their educational
experience, and academic and support services; about campus
climate; self-rated knowledge, skills, and development; their
suggestions for improvement; whether their objectives were
met; their employment and campus-involvement experiences; and
their plans for the next year. Special survey inserts may ask
additional questions specific to the student's college and
major program.
- Alumni who received bachelor's degrees are surveyed:
- currently by web, one to three years after graduation.
- about their employment and/or further education; the importance of
and preparation in various skills and abilities for employment
and/or further education; and their employment-search
experience. Special survey inserts may ask
additional questions specific to the student's college and
major program.
- Employers of bachelor's-degree alumni are surveyed (discontinued):
- by mail, in conjunction with the Alumni Survey in 1995 and 1998.
- about the importance of and the employee's preparation in
various skills and abilities; and about the employing firm and
the employee's position.
Notes:
1. The Sophomore Survey was administered annually
until 2000.

Prior to December 2000, only spring graduates were surveyed, and
only the paper survey option was available.
