Did you know…that Distance Education at NC State is becoming an increasingly popular option for taking classes?  Distance Education hours include both electronically delivered classes (i.e. online, cable television, etc.) and classes taught face-to-face but at a location away from NC State’s main campus.  From Fall 2000 to Spring 2007, each semester has seen a year-to-year increase in the percentage of all credit hours taken through Distance Education.

Did you know…that taking a second major is increasingly popular for undergraduates at NC State and that a second major correlates with academic success? Between Fall 1997 and Fall 2006, among all the degrees sought – including both first and second majors – the percentage of second majors has risen from 5.3% to 8.0%.

Did you know…that undergraduate students who participate in NC State’s Cooperative Education (co-op) program are more likely to graduate and have higher cumulative GPA’s at graduation than students who did not?  Co-op students take, on average, one semester longer to graduate.  However, co-op students graduate with work experience that applies towards Engineering licensure.

Did you know....that the majority of female students graduated in four years for the first time?  Four-year graduation rates for women continue to eclipse males as 52% of the Fall 2002 cohort of female students graduated in four years or less.  Having the majority of female students graduate in four years is a milestone in a decade-long increase in four-year graduation rates at NC State.

Did you know....that the average number of semesters to graduation has decreased by almost a semester for freshmen entering NC State in the Fall of 1989 versus the Fall of 2000.  The 1989 cohort graduated, on average, during the spring of their fifth year (9.3 semesters).  The 2000 cohort graduated, on average, during the fall of their fifth year (8.7 semesters).  This improvement came from a steady decline in the average semesters to graduation; of the last 11 cohorts, 9 of them graduated as fast or faster than the previous cohort.  These calculations exclude summer school attendance and are limited to students who graduate in less than six years.
