Credit Hour Reports, Spring 2008

The student credit hour report is produced each semester from the student course extract and the instructor extract. It shows the total credit hours and total contact hours for each college. Separate reports are made for the college offering the course and the home college of the faculty member.

New for 2007-08 academic year The college summary reports (Credit Hours and Contact Hours by College Offering Course) have sub-tables after the summary for On-Campus and Distance Education SCHs. These SCHs are as-of census date and include fundable and non-fundable both.

These credit hours are summed from all hours present in the database, including on-campus instruction, Vet Medicine, and Distance Education instruction. Placeholder courses for our students taking instruction at some other institution are deleted (Study Abroad, National Student Exchange, and Inter-Institutional.) Other institution's students taking instruction here are included.

The total FTE is used to determine the Credit Hours per FTE and Contact Hours per FTE by college. The calculations are as follows:

• Instructional FTE - All faculty (Occupational Activity code = 20) who are permanent or on leave with pay, or are temporary but not replacing a faculty member on leave with pay, are included in this population. The instructional FTE is then computed by summing all of the 101-1310 and 106-1310 FTEs for these people.
• Supplemental FTE - All others teaching a class are included in the supplemental faculty. This includes administrators who are teaching, graduate teaching assistants, undergraduate lab assistants, and those not paid through PeopleSoft. The supplemental FTE for each individual is computed by dividing his total credit hours taught by 12. These FTEs are then summed for each college which has course responsibility.
• Total FTE - The sum of Instructional FTE and Supplemental FTE for each college.

The crossover analysis report is also known as a producer-comsumer matrix. Some of NC State's colleges provide a lot of instruction to other college's majors, and this table shows those patterns. This report shows the college of the student major as consumer of SCHs on the left side of the table, and the college offering the course as producer of SCHs across the top of the table. There are two crossover tables in the same report, first is summary of SCHs and second is SCHs by level of course and level of student.
